Skin allergy and rash care

When skin itches, reddens or reacts to a new product, we help you calm it down and find what might be causing it.

Skin allergy and rash care

How it works

Skin reactions come in two main forms. Irritation happens when something harsh, such as detergent, a strong face wash or a new cosmetic, damages the skin barrier. An allergy happens when the immune system reacts to a specific ingredient, commonly hair dye (PPD), fragrance, nickel in jewellery or preservatives.

We calm the skin first, then work backwards to find the trigger from your history and the pattern of the rash. Hives, the raised, itchy welts that come and go, have their own causes, and we look into those too.

Results and how long they last

Questions people ask

What if it is severe?

If your lips or face swell, or you have trouble breathing, go to the nearest emergency department straight away.

I react to hair dye. What can I do?

Stop using it until the skin settles. Do a patch test before every new dye, and ask us about safer options. “Herbal” dyes often still contain PPD.

How do I patch test a new product?

Apply a little behind the ear or on the inner arm for two to three days. If there is no redness or itch, it is less likely to react.
