White patches (vitiligo) care
White patches can have different causes, and not all are vitiligo. We examine the patches, explain the cause and discuss treatment options. Vitiligo care is long-term, and we support you through it.

How it works
Not every white patch is vitiligo. Light patches on children’s cheeks are often pityriasis alba, a mild dryness. Some fungal infections leave pale spots. Patches can also follow burns, injuries or eczema. Vitiligo is different: the pigment cells in a patch stop working, usually leaving milk-white patches with clear edges.
Once we know the cause, we explain the options. For vitiligo these may include creams, light-based treatment and medicines to stop spreading and encourage colour to return. The face and body usually respond better than hands and feet.

Results and how long they last
Simple causes such as dryness or fungal spots clear in weeks. With vitiligo, the first goal is to stop new patches; repigmentation shows as small brown dots inside the patch over months. Progress photos help track it.

Questions people ask
Is vitiligo contagious?
No. It does not spread by touch or food.
Does eating white foods, fish with milk, or sour foods cause vitiligo?
No. These are common myths. Vitiligo is related to the immune system and genes, not to these foods.
Can I hide the patches with makeup?
Yes. Good camouflage makeup is safe and can be used alongside treatment. We can suggest options.
